Summers Bounty

My first attempt at gardening was this year. I have always claimed to have a black thumb when it came to caring for my garden and reaping any rewards. Sure I have planted tomato plants a few other veggies to later watch them shrivel up and become nothing but a brown mass of wasted potential.

BUT NOT THIS YEAR!!
I made a promise to myself this was the year that we are going to eat out of the garden. And boy did we.

Tomatoes Tomatoes and more Tomatoes The kids ate the like they were candy, sooo sweet and juicy.

Three Zucchini plants and you have enough for the year if you shred and freeze what you can't eat. This family kept up with the harvest just fine. Will have to plant 4 next year.

My Lemon Cucumbers didn't seem to reach there full potential, but boy were they good! I think a little research and it will be all good for next year.

YUM need I say more? Okay I did take the picture a little early I also added Fresh Basil and salt and pepper and called it a Kiss Salad . (Keep it simple silly. Why what were you thinking?)

Rosemary and Basil I have tried to grow these herbs multiple times to no avail, Until this year yes! And my Rosemary bush has taken on multiple layering so I'm sure to have it next year.

As you can see I feel that I made good on the self promise and did a pretty great job of it seeings how we are still eating off all the herbs and veggies well into fall.(except the cucumbers)

So now the big question.... Do I sit on my laurels the rest of fall and pat myself on the back for a job well done, all winter long?
OR
Do I plant a fall winter garden?
Let me know what you think. Leave a comment to tell me what can growing the fall/winter here in Western Washington.

Espailer Update

                                        Looking Good My Little Friend

We did lose over half of the apples to the birds. Found some bird netting and saved a few. I didn't really expect to see fruit this year, much less eatable fruit. Boy that piece you see hanging below was the sweetest sour apple I've eaten.

This little tree was so full of information this year that I can't wait to see what we learn over our lifetime together.

Summer Vacation is Over

Today is actually the last day of summer vacation for the children. They are so sad, yet excited to see it go. So I guess they are feeling happy/sad today. They love all the new clothes and school supplies we have purchased in preparation for the up coming year.

At 112th Street we have been very busy and the summer flew bye, (I am quite sure you all have been also). With the children home for the summer I felt that I didn't have enough hours in a day.  Most of the days I did have was spent in the kitchen or cleaning something I had just cleaned. ( Can you feel me?)
Then came a surgery that put me down for 3 weeks. (All is well) Mr. F took time off to care for me, and what a wonderful job he did. And I have to say that our LuLu sure stepped up to the plate. She took over all the meal prep, cooking, and cleaning. The Nater and Little Miss stepped up to take over LuLu's normal chores along with their own, without complaint. That is until now that I am up and moving around on a regular basis.

I do have lots to talk about and will make a habit out of posting on a regular basis. In fact a post will be posted later today to explain a new opportunity that I have accepted and am extremely excited about. But for now that is all.

Have a great day

Promises Made = Extreme Crochet....

And My Favorite Throw

This is the most extreme crochet that I have had to pull together in a very short amount of time.

So how do you get yourself into a position to have to extreme crochet? Well for me it doesn't take much. A nice relaxing weekend at a club cruise, some wine, and the desire to help your Friends out. Yep that'll do it every time.

I was approached by a couple of our club members and asked  " If we purchased the yarn would you be willing to crochet another afghan like the one that you donated to the Freeze Cruise Raffle."

I didn't see any problem with that, the function they wanted it for was still a few months away, "Sure I can do that, lets get together later and pick out the colors."

Well then as time went by and the holidays approached I forgot about it. Until one day Mr.F came home from talking with one of our friends and asked me...
"So how is the afghan coming along for the raffle?"
"What afghan? What raffle?"
" I don't know I was asked to ask you how the afghan was coming along."
"I don't know what....." then it dawned on me "Oh that afghan."

Well need less to say I hadn't even started it. So I made a few calls let them know what was going on and asked what color they wanted and headed out to pick up supplies. By the way that's when I found out they needed it in 6 days. (WHAT!!!)

DAY 1:  Went by in a blur of shopping and finding a great deal on yarn.

DAY 2: Looking for my pattern book that has my favorite afghan in it and not being able to find it. Along with all the other things I needed to get done that day. 3 hours later here it is.

DAY 3: Gather the rest of my supplies and get started.

  • Crochet hook , check

  • 3 lbs of yarn and some scrap yarns;  check, check

Now with a little quite time and many cups of coffee I start to see some progress. Yep, Yep, I see some progress.

By the end of day 3 I have just over 37" made and my kids are glad to see me put it down for awhile! I think they were getting tired of hearing me say "just a minute" or "shh I'm counting". I usually crochet in the evenings not during the day when they may need something, ya know like food or maybe a referee.

Day 4: We finished all of the cereal and milk that morning so it's a day of grocery shopping, and of course a little more crochet.

  • Yes!!! Now on to the next step.

  • A few minor adjustments.

  • Ahhhh....
  • Trim all the way around.

  • Just before dinner I got the last round on.
Starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Day 5: Now a few finishing touches...... Sew in all the loose ends.... Perfect I'm Finished Yeah.

Would love to hear from you, Have you experienced any Extreme Crochet projects?

Thanks for taking the time to stop in and have a great weekend.

Day 6:  The phone call was made and an early pick arranged. I felt relieved to be finished along with knowing that a promise was fullfilled and in time for the raffle that evening.
